Changes in Visa a Residence Permit legislation - in force as of 1 July 2025

The Ministry of Interior has announce a new law changes to make it easier for foreigners to apply for residence in Slovakia. Most of the changes affect the temporary residence permit for the purpose of business. 

However, other changes will affect also other types of residence permit:

  • The validity of a national visa issued for the purpose of submitting a residence application in Slovakia will be extended from 90 to 120 days.
  • Proof of sufficient financial resources will only be required for the verification of an invitation for a Schengen visa, the above-mentioned business residence, residence for non-EU babies born in Slovakia or the EU, and long-term residence.
  • Photographs will no longer be required as part of residence applications (except in cases where biometric data cannot be collected).
  • Foreign Police departments that are not otherwise competent for a particular case will officially be able to process certain types of applications.
  • Applicants will be required to use the online appointment booking system.
