CARLiS Project: how to set up an intersectoral career training
CARLiS project aimed to develop tools for the provision of comprehensive career training programme preparing PhD students for career paths beyond academia, with specific focus on the life-science sector.
Project outcomes offer an insight into labour market situation and career opportunities for PhD graduates in life science sector in the region of Bratislava-Vienna. Survey conducted among the PhD students and interviews with representatives of private sector provide a detailed understanding of the perceived skills gaps.
Lessons learnt from the training developed to address this gap is summarised in the handbook on how to set up the training to prepare PhD students for careers beyond academia. The Handbook includes tips on how to start with developing the career training and detailed descriptions for 25 core and extending courses covering more than 90 training hours in four areas: career strategies, soft skills, transfer of knowledge and entrepreneurship.
Collection of 15 career stories demonstrates a variety of career paths researchers can follow within and beyond academia.
