If you are a Ukrainian PhD student, researcher or academic and you are seeking accommodation for yourself or your family members turn to the university in Slovakia or research institute where you hold your position.
Slovak universities and research institutes have their own initiatives to offer a helping hand to Ukrainian students, PhDs, researchers and academics providing free accommodation and financial support to their students, staff and their family members. Although not all provide the information in English/Ukrainian, they provide useful contacts to university/research institution staff members, instructions and other useful information.

Slovak Academy of Sciences offers free accommodation capacities in Bratislava, Smolenice and Stará Lesná for newly arriving Ukrainian colleagues, as well as for their family members. SAS will also provide free accommodation capacities for family members of current employees and doctoral students as well as a significant reduction of fees for accommodation for Ukrainian employees and doctoral students of the SAS currently accommodated in its facilities.

If you a displaced Ukrainian national who has just arrived in Slovakia, you need to legalize your stay in Slovakia if you plan to stay for more than 90 days in Slovakia.
In the current situation, the easiest way to legally stay in Slovakia is to apply for temporary refuge – this type of residence allows you to study and work/conduct your research/academic activity in Slovakia and you are entitled to urgent medical care and other support. If you have not applied yet, you will find all information on the official web for Ukrainian refugees, or on the webpage of the Slovak Immigration Office. You can also speed up the process by registering for temporary refuge online beforehand.

- Funding Scheme for Slovak universities and R&D organisations to support Ukrainian as well as other scientists threatened by the war in Ukraine (researchers from Moldova, Belarus, and Russia). The scheme has been launched by the Government Office of the Slovak Republic in May 2022.

The tasks related to the recognition of a foreign diploma or professional qualification are fulfilled by the Centre for recognition of diplomas (CRD) by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
In case of education or training completed abroad, there are the following options of its official recognition in Slovakia:
- Professional recognition (recognition of professional qualifications) is the recognition of professional qualifications obtained abroad for the pursuit of regulated professions (the professions that require specific training and in case of a foreign qualification recognition of professional qualifications is required).
- Academic recognition applies to the continuation of studies or any other purpose, except for the pursuit of regulated professions. It is possible to recognize only the level of education, or the equivalence of the study field as well.

Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava, reflecting the current situation, has decided to expand the activities of the course Student Legal Counselling and offer free legal aid and assistance to people who are seeking protection from the threat of war in Ukraine in Slovakia.
The faculty offers assistance to people from Ukraine in solving legal issues related to their stay and life situations or needs in Slovakia. Within the Student Legal Counselling Centre, students under the supervision of lawyers and teachers of the Faculty of Law will prepare a legal analysis for applicants and provide them with assistance in communication with public administration bodies.
The Legal Counselling Centre deals with cases from most areas of law except for criminal law and students are also unable to provide representation before courts or other public authorities.

Slovak banks are gradually adjusting the banking services and their conditions so that they can help the citizens of Ukraine as much as possible. They want to make it easier for them to come to our country and thus at least partially alleviate their difficult situation.
